A. Local travel information for arriving at EMDC 2025 (De Betteld Centre)

The recommended transportation to De Betteld (Zelhem) from the airports is via train

Shuttle Service

Shuttle service to and from the Doetinchem train station will be arranged for those staying at De Betteld.  Those staying offsite will need to make their own arrangements.

Train ticket Options (arriving Brussels)

Printed Tickets:  Print-at-home e-tickets are available online. Here’s area links for both Dutch and Belgian sites where tickets can be purchased: SNCB (Belgian Airport).  Be sure to print out your tickets ahead of time.

Recommend that you purchase a one-way, 2nd class ticket to “DOETINCHEM” (not “Doetinchem De Huet”)

Train ticket Options (arriving Amsterdam)

Ticketless:  If your credit or debit card allow contactless payments, you don’t need to purchase any ticket!  Just checking in AND out will suffice.

Single-use chipcards: Can be purchased at Schiphol airport from yellow ticket machines with blue overhead sign reading ‘train tickets’. There is an extra €1 fee for the chipcard, and an extra €.50 for using a credit card. See instructions for using the ticket machines below. You should “check-in” and “check-out” at the beginning and end of your journey.

However, your ticket is actually valid for any train to your destination on the date you selected.

Booking Information:  (purchase one-way, 2nd class ticket to “DOETINCHEM” (not “Doetinchem De Huet”).

Do not buy round-trip or return tickets.

When booking your train tickets in advance,
please allow 2 to 3 hours as a safety margin
for delays in your arrival flight or railway maintenance when departing.

                Name:  The name on the ticket must be the same as the name on your personal identification.
 Type of ticket:  One way, (Do not buy a round trip or return ticket).
Class of ticket:  “2nd class”  (Second class is as good as first class).
                From:  Select your arrival airport (For Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS))
                      To:  Doetinchem train station and not Doetinchem de Huet.
      Departure:  first & last trains for arriving/departing Schiphol Airport for EMDC events

PreEMDC (arriving May 13, departing May 18)

      • – May 13 last train departs Schiphol Airport at 22:46 (last train to Doetinchem arrives 00:37)
        – May 18 last train to Schiphol Airport at 22:53, (arrives Schiphol at 00:55, after midnight)
        – May 13 first train departs Schiphol Airport at 04:03 (earliest arrival Doetinchem is 07:07)

EMDC (arriving May 18, departing May 23)

        • – May 18 last train departs Schiphol Airport at 22:46 (latest arrival Doetinchem is 00:37)
          – May 23 last train to Schiphol Airport at 22:46 (arrives Schiphol 00:55, after midnight)
          – May 18 first train departs Schiphol Airport at 06:09 (earliest arrival Doetinchem is 08:37)

Transit Instructions:  Amsterdam Schiphol Airport >> De Betteld (Zelhem, NL)

Step by step instructions for those arriving at Schiphol Airport

1)  At “Arrivals” follow signs to the Schiphol Railway Station, which is located below the airport.

2)  If you need to buy a ticket, you can go to the Train tickets & Services desk for help with you purchase.

OR you can buy a one-way ticket or single-use chipcard at the self-service ticket machines.

NS ticket machines, which are usually blue and have the NS logo with “Train tickets” on top.
These machines are found at almost every station in the Netherlands.

They allow you to buy tickets, top up your OV-chipkaart, or purchase single-use chip cards (paper tickets with a chip)

Select “Single”, “One-way“, “2nd class”

Then select “Doetinchem” (after typing in the first two letters: D-O)

Once you have selected the ticket you are directed to the payment section on the right.

You can either insert your card above the display, or slide across the section underneath.

3) Before you get on the train you should “check in” by holding your ticket next to a card reader.

At Schiphol Airport they are near the ticket machines or near the top of the escalators going down. At other stations you may find them at the entrance of the station or at the platform. If you forget, do not worry. There are no consequences for tourists using single-use tickets

4)  Your train is: Intercity to Nijmegen, departing from platform 1, leaving at :05 and :35 minutes past every hour

Best to check departure time and platform on the big display next to the Tickets & Services desk, just in case there were changes.

5)  You get off the train at the penultimate station: Arnhem Central station.  Travel time about 1 hour 14 minutes.

6)  Normally you exit the train onto Platform 8

Since you are switching trains you do not need to checkout.
You only need to check out if you are leaving the station, or continuing on another form of transportation.

7)  Move to Platform 9 to connect with trains to Doetinchem.  These are smaller commuter trains.

    • Trains at :02 and :32 minutes past the hour leave for Winterswijk,
      exit at Doetinchem after 35 minutes.
    • Trains at :17 and :47 minutes past the hour leave for Doetinchem,
      travel time 34 minutes.

8)  Upon arriving at the Doetinchem train station:

    • Remember to check out with your chipcard or bank card
      (not needed if you purchased a paper ticket).
    • If you are staying at De Betteld, look for a van with EMDC/De Betteld sign.

 

B. Information for return to AMS on 23 May (after EMDC only)

1) By BUS–€30 Euros per person for a bus leaving DeBetteld for AMS airport NOTE: You will need cash  

The tentative bus schedule is as follows, though this is subject to change:

        • 4:00 AM departure
        • 6:00 AM departure
        • 8:00 AM departure
        • 10:00 AM departure

2) By Train–free limited van shuttles to the Doetinchem train station (train tickets are approximately €26 Euros per person for one way tickets)
