EMDC Electrical Info

De Betteld Electrical Information:

The power supply in the Netherlands is 230 volts. To be more specific: 220-240 volts AC (Alternating Current), 50-60 hertz. The same voltage is used over the rest of Europe.

Most electrical devices you may want to bring (e.g. hairdryer, battery charger) will usually switch automatically to 220 volts, or can be switched manually. If in doubt, consult the manual. If your equipment does not run on 220 volts, then you should buy a 110>220 volt converter suitable for small appliances up to 1500 watts. In some hotels you often find bathroom shaver outlets with both 110 and 220 volts available.

Do not try to plug your non-switchable 110 volt appliances directly into a European socket without a transformer – you might destroy your appliance and possibly even start a fire.

Electricity plug shapes, plug holes, plug sizes and sockets are different in many countries. In the Netherlands the standard continental 2-pin CEE 7-17 plug and CEE 7 plugs and sockets are used (check the images). If necessary you should bring a plug adapter with you – we advise you to buy one in your home country.

Horizon Village Electrical Information:

The Thai Electrical System is 220-230 VAC, 50 Hz

The most important factor to consider is whether your home country has the same voltage.  If you are unsure, you can check here (Electricity & plugs for each country). Many electronic power supplies are now designed to operate on a range of voltage from 100 to 230 Volts.  These devices may be plugged in safely.

If your device does not clearly indicate that it can operate with 220-230 Vac, do not plug it in.

At Horizon the room outlets look like this:

They are designed to accept several types of plugs.

Type O plug (used in Thailand)

Type C plugs (used in many European, African and Asian countries)

Type E and F plugs which are similar to type C but with thicker pins

Type A and B plugs (commonly used in North America

Note:  Countries using type A and B plugs normally have a 100-127 Vac electrical system.  For devices from these countries please make sure the device label clearly indicates it will work with the higher 220-230 Vac voltage found in Thailand.
