Key elements include discovering your story, planning, prep, visualization, production obstacles, people skills, interviewing, and decision-making. Nothing from a textbook; every element gleaned from hard-won professional experiences. Craig is an award-winning TV director and documentary filmmaker. He has traveled to 151 countries on six continents producing programs for such clients as CBS, ABC, Discovery Channel, Fox Sports, A&E, Samaritan\u2019s Purse, and Billy Graham. He has covered subjects as diverse as tribal warfare, sex trafficking, and Islamic terrorism. He was also part of the EMMY-winning production team for Season 14 of the American reality television show, The Amazing Race. Craig earned a Doctor of Fine Arts degree in redemptive filmmaking from Kingdom Seminary. He frequently speaks at media conferences about harnessing the power of media production to further the gospel. Craig has served as an adjunct professor of media production at several universities in the US, and is the author of Commando Tactics for Digital Filmmakers and other works.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n What do believers do when cultural customs clash with their allegiance to God? CmS provides principles that help believers use Scripture to both evaluate their underlying beliefs and then discern what to do. When pressures from family, peers and community require participation in those practices, where do believers gain needed support to make choices that align with Scripture to honor God? What if those choices entail great relational costs and powerfully entrenched cultural beliefs? These types of questions are core to this breakout session. The hour introduces a process to uncover the driving forces that demand the practice be done and then uses Scripture to see how God\u2019s Word speaks to those forces. It aims at providing a way for believers to develop culturally meaningful responses that align with Scripture. Jo has served with Wycliffe for 66 years and has an MA in Intercultural Studies from Biola University. She did a NT translation in the Philippines, then headed the Anthropology Department of SIL Philippines. She currently works as a Scripture Engagement Consultant for SIL International. Jo co-developed the Culture meets Scripture trainings with Amy West and together they introduce the workshops internationally in varied venues. In her years of service with SIL she began as an assistant in the SIL Philippines\u2019 Anthropology Department and then earned her PhD at Fuller School of Intercultural Studies. They have led trainings in Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and the Pacific.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n In this session we will present about Beyond Translation\u2019s impact across various geographies in the world. We will also explore how Church-Centric Bible Translation (CCBT) is empowering global church networks. Join us as we discuss how to accelerate Bible translation through CCBT and Artificial Intelligence. Sachin Daniel Abraham, originally from New Delhi, India, left a successful legal and business career in 2016 to pursue a calling to missions and now serves as the founding CEO of Beyond Translation. Sachin\u2019s heart for the nations shapes the culture and heart of Beyond Translation. He is a strong advocate and a practitioner of Church Centric Bible Translation across the Globe. Under his leadership, the organization which launched in 2023, now supports Bible translation in 29 countries and over 600 languages.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n In the first session, we will demonstrate a way different specialists can assist language teams and communities in thinking through and planning activities to maximise the impact of translated Scriptures. This is an interactive session as participants will be asked to put into practice their learning through given scenarios. Jo Clifford is a Vernacular Media Consultant who has worked and lived in Tanzania for over 10 years. She started out as a Scripture Engagement specialist (2 years) before further training as a Vernacular Media specialist. Jo is currently based in Germany in her role as Global Scripture Access Services Director. She also continues to coordinate the vernacular media work for SIL Tanzania.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n Come see the initial release of Paratext 10 Studio. He lives in The Netherlands and has been working with Wycliffe Netherlands and SIL since 2022.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n Craig is the Project Manager for Paratext 10 Studio at SIL International. He joined SIL in 2024, seeking to serve the Lord through meaningful work. Craig leads the Paratext 10 Studio team, focused on advancing the next generation of the Paratext software. He collaborates with global partners to ensure it meets the real-world needs of Bible translators. Craig lives in Florida, USA, with his wife and son.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n Making movies requires amazing actors in front of the camera. In this workshop you will hear practical tips for securing actors for your movie. Special emphasis will be given to the process of casting indigenous actors for culturally-relevant gospel movie productions. We will enjoy a mock casting session that will give you a front row seat at the casting director\u2019s table. Actor volunteers will be needed for the casting session. Steve is an award-winning American filmmaker serving with Create International since 2009. Steve ran his own video production business in New England for several years, specializing in promotional videos for Christian nonprofits and corporations. On a World Vision trip to Africa in 2006, he heard God\u2019s call to become a full-time media missionary. Steve and his wife, Allyson, lead the Create International Mobile Production & Training Team, www.createmobile.org, focused on cross-cultural movie production, training in filmmaking, and producing more indigenous movies for unreached people groups.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n First-generation immigrants tend to keep the culture of their homeland and their mother tongue. The 1.5 generation immigrants are bilingual, or multilingual, and can successfully negotiate different cultures but they do not really belong to any culture. The second generation immigrants choose the language in the country of resettlement as their mother tongue, and feel at home in that country. Since an immigrant\/diaspora family has multiple migration generations in their families, their family dynamics are unique. This session discusses the issues different generations deal with, and offers ideas about how to minister to them. Sunny Hong was born and raised in South Korea. As a third-generation Christian, she had the privilege to witness the entire nation responding to God, and sending out missionaries. After immigrating to the US in 1984, she joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1994 and worked as a mobilizer, an anthropologist,\u00c2\u00a0and an adjunct professor at Dallas International University. She received her Ph.D. in intercultural studies at Biola University in 2014.\u00c2\u00a0Sunny currently serves as the director of Global Diaspora Services and senior anthropology consultant at SIL International. She also serves on the SIL and Wycliffe USA boards. She is passionate about Bible translation, bridging cultural gaps, and speaking up for minorities and refugees.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n \u201cPsalms that Sing\u201d (PtS) conducted a three-year pilot in 6 languages in Africa to test a 10-step multimodal approach to translate the psalms in poetry, and then to have it performed in song or chant. In other words, an approach that moves from oral to text to performance. In my presentation I will discuss some of the findings of the pilot and sketch the way forward to have the Psalms translated and engaged with simultaneously. Many projects are transitioning from NT to OT and this approach may be an option for some who want to see the Psalms in poetry and in song in their respective languages. Sebastian Floor (PhD) is a Dutch-born South African who lives with his wife Karen in Cape Town. They served for 20 years with SIL in Mozambique where they facilitated the translation of the NT, the Pentateuch and the whole Psalter in the Mwani language. Sebastian then served as Seed Company Regional Director for southern Africa since 2012, and since 2020 he is leading the Psalms that Sing working group. He is a translation consultant.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n Chris Lyndon is a SIL translation consultant for teams in Mozambique and Guinea Bissau. He lived in Mozambique as a linguist and translation adviser for 13 years. Prior to joining SIL, Chris worked in a small (analogue\/tape) recording studio and has maintained an interest in recording as a hobby for 45 years.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n See an oral model of how to go deep in the Bible through discussion. Learn actions and expressions that engage participant\u2019s imaginations, while maintaining accuracy to Scripture. We will teach the importance of developing active listening skills, asking good questions, and allowing participants the joy of discovering truth for themselves. If you minister to those who may struggle to read or who prefer to learn orally, this opportunity is for you. Butch is a Bible storyteller with Simply The Story. After serving for over 35 years in Pastoral Ministry, Butch now serves as the Director of International Development for Simply The Story. In the last eleven years, he has traveled to around 50 countries teaching people how to tell engaging, accurate Bible stories that not only teach participants, but actually allows them to experience God\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Word in a fresh and vibrant way. From the hills of war-torn Syria to the beaches of Costa Rica and the beautiful mountains of New Zealand, Butch has seen stories transform the lives of both adults and children.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n Take a crash course on what makes a website or app intuitive. You will learn how to perform a user experience test on a website, then test your own website with other workshop participants. If you\u2019ve never done this before, you might be shocked by what you discover. Improvement happens rapidly when you see your website through someone else’s eyes. This seminar is for anyone who wants to make their website or app better. Intuitive apps and websites don\u2019t happen, they are crafted. George has been a top rated speaker at the EMDC and other conferences around the world. He has helped numerous ministries discover and fix the user experience bugs that were reducing the effectiveness of their online ministries. He believes that Christians who are suffering under persecution should not also have to suffer on a bad website. His motto is “Make things easy to use so that nobody feels stupid, because most people aren’t.”<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n The video games industry is larger than movies and music combined. Yet the Bible is under-represented. Is that because Bible Games are just too hard to make, both technically and theologically? This breakout explores gaming as a digital continent with its own distinct gamer cultures. From Minecraft Church to Twitch streaming, Esports tournaments, and scripture-based video games, we\u2019ll look at current missions to gaming. We\u2019ll be majoring on the digital nations with over 100M monthly active users\u2014Steam, Fortnite, Minecraft, and Roblox\u2014while also discussing mobile gaming, console gaming, and emerging formats like VR\/AR. Come and be inspired by the mission potential. Toby is Director of Digital Strategy at Bible Society, focused on pathfinding and productising new forms of digital Bible mission. Toby is an experienced digital media entrepreneur across a string of tech startups including Nudge, a social apps agency working for clients like Facebook, Playstation and Unilever, which he sold in 2010; Leaderboarded\/Rise.global, a media platform used to gamify social media engagement by UN, PwC and IBM; Running World Cup, a global virtual running tournament hosted by Usain Bolt; and MicroAid, an innovative international development charity. He has appeared on Sky News, 7 News and Channel 4 as a digital media expert and is author of the book Infinite Gamification: how to motivate your team until the end of time, which has been translated into Turkish, Korean and Arabic. He has also worked for UNDP inside the government of Indonesia and as an advisor to the European Commission on Horizon 2020 Research projects.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n We live in a visual world that is increasingly dominated by photographic images. But what are photos really? Does everybody have the same understanding about what a photo is and how it works? We use an example from Benin, West Africa, to illustrate how people understand photos differently from how we view them in Europe. Many do not see photos of people as representations, but rather as being part of who they are. When people see a photo of Jesus \u2013 in a film, for example \u2013 they don\u2019t see him as being represented by an actor, but as Jesus himself. We consider what this means for ministry and propose that we need to break the global predominance of white Jesuses. Johannes is a Senior Anthropology Consultant with SIL Global. He has a PhD in cultural anthropology from Leiden University, the Netherlands, and lectures anthropology at the School of Language and Scripture, Moorlands College (http:\/\/www.moorlands.ac.uk\/) in Christchurch, UK. His specialized area of interest is film and other media, and especially how they communicate cross-culturally. Johannes and his wife, Sharon, are based in Benin, West Africa, where they have worked since 2002.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n Sharon is the Anthropology Coordinator for SIL Global, and a Senior Anthropology Consultant. She has a PhD in social anthropology from the University of Exeter, UK, and lectures anthropology at the School of Language and Scripture, Moorlands College (http:\/\/www.moorlands.ac.uk\/) in Christchurch, UK. Her specialized areas of interest include eschatology and human-animal interactions. Sharon and her husband, Johannes, are based in Benin, West Africa, where they have worked since 2002.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n Dallas International University has two new programs that are fully accredited yet delivered completely in languages other than English: Portuguese and Indonesian. It started through mutual and respectful dialogue between DIU and the host institutions resulting in a formal agreement to share faculty and curriculum resulting in a hybrid distance ed. paradigm with a Lead professor and an Associate instructor, where one or the other is bilingual. Then, we were able to contextualize and translate the curriculum and provide both intensive face-to-face instruction as well as distance learning. Partner organizations are willing to help with funding for training at the local level through the local language. We will be adding 40 new students this coming year and have gained two amazing new partner institutions and have two new programs in discussion in other parts of the world. Scott is the President\/CEO of Dallas International University, which exists to prepare global leaders to partner with local communities. Previously, he helped establish and launch institutional partnerships in the Americas, both with non-profits and academic institutions. He served with SIL for 20 before coming to DIU and has a PhD in Linguistics.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n<\/details>\n The Multilingualism Assessment Tool (MAT) enables communities to understand more deeply how they use their languages, and what that means for Scripture Engagement and Translation. When used with church leaders and translators, it has helped many to see new ways of using translated material and involves them in a more meaningful way in decision making around Bible translation. In this session we will give a brief introduction to MAT, examine its impact, and look at challenges in its implementation, asking how it can be better integrated into strategy. Breakthroughs and lessons learned with time for Q&A. The Oral Bible Translation (OBT) Affinity Table, commissioned by Every Tribe Every Nation (ETEN), serves as a global hub for leaders, advocates, and practitioners committed to advancing OBT. It fosters alignment, innovation, and resource-sharing to accelerate OBT efforts worldwide. Michele Axelson of Wycliffe US is coordinating the OBT training track at EMDC this year. The Affinity Table plays a key role in equipping and mobilizing OBT practitioners, with a shared collaboration platform that connects stakeholders, facilitates knowledge exchange, and enhances synergy across the OBT community. In previous years, it hosted Global Gatherings and regional consultations to strengthen partnerships and expand engagement.
